Changes emphasize greater flexibility and clarity within the Scrum framework Boston – November 7, 2017 – Scrum.org, the mission-based organization dedicated to improving the profession of software delivery through training, certification assessments and community, and Scrum Inc., the world’s premier Scrum training and consulting provider, today announced that Scrum co-creators Ken Schwaber and Jeff Sutherland have made updates to the Scrum Guide, the body of knowledge of Scrum. These are the first updates to the Scrum Guide since July 2016.
True Scrum is a framework with no limitations to where, and when it can be employed. Although Schwaber and Sutherland initially focused on software complexity, they have found applicability for Scrum in many areas of business and technology including integrated, embedded and advanced technologies.
“As new technologies and practices have evolved over time, a misconception that Scrum is rigid has arisen and these changes will resolve that,” said Schwaber. “Scrum is truly an empirical process that is not prescriptive and is adaptable by the teams using it. You’ll no longer find the words ‘there are no exceptions’ in this guide and with that comes the clarity that many releases can occur during a Sprint. We look forward to how the community will embrace this update.”
The recording of the webcast will be made available soon by Schwaber, Sutherland and both organizations. The Scrum Guide can be found at http://www.scrumguides.org/.
